PLACES TO STAY IN CAMBODIA: RATANAKIRI BOUTIQUE HOTEL

Hidden in the Banlung area, this quietly located hotel is perfect for any trekking activities or experiencing that feel of luxury. Sitting opposite the Boeung Kan Seng Lake, the Ratanakiri Boutique Hotel is exactly what you need to reward yourself for the adventures ahead.

The hotel offers an outdoor swimming pool, beautiful views and plenty of trekking opportunities in the surrounding jungles.

I actually visited on a work trip, we were fortunate enough to have had this hotel recommended by our trek provider. We stayed here for one night before our four day trek, stored out kit and then for one night after the trek. We spoke directly to the manager of the hotel who helped us book rooms, sort out breakfast and kit storage.

Walking into the hotel, you’re greeted by the large rolling staircase, glittering chandelier and smiling staff.

Room

I think as we had been staying in backpacker accommodation, walking into this hotel was a bit of a shock. We certainly didn’t feel like we should be walking around in our grubby boots & gear.

Each room is equipped with a private bathroom, WiFi & air conditioning. I was given a double room with a balcony, I walked in to what seemed like a massive king size bed. Being only 5ft 3, the bed was huge, it was the first time I have ever been in a bed where I couldn’t reach any of the side even when stretched fully.

A clean, neat room, with water and towels and toiletries in the bathroom. You were also given a fridge & kettle, just in case you need to store any food/snack you have, or have a cup of tea sitting on the balcony in the sun. It was quiet, comfortable and the staff were very helpful. I was impressed by the room and was happy with both stays.

Food

There is a chance to walk into town, but it is about 10/15 minutes on quite busy road to the main town.

We ate at the restaurant for dinner and breakfast as we were tied for time. Fairly priced and with a great selection, they were catering for a large group of us and it came out very quick and all at the same time.

I was met by a warm welcome on the morning, looking out over the lake, with the sunlight shining through. There was plenty of selection for breakfast, I went off the recommendation of the waitress – homemade pineapple jam and bread. I love pineapple, it’s my favourite fruit, but I have never had it as a jam and it was great. She served it fresh out of the pot so it was warm on the local bread. I would love to have it again, or make some at home!

Overall

A short and sweet stay here, but I actually can’t say I have any problems with our stay. The owner was extremely accommodating, especially with our big group who needed to stick within the budget. Location was perfect for escaping the hustle of the town, being able to explore town, walk around the lake, and a stop off point before our many activities. A recommendation would be to book a room with a lake view, when the sun sets over the sky, it is totally worth it.

I would say if you are visiting the Banlung area any time soon, to go jungle trekking, or any other adventure activities – stay here for your bit of luxury.
